Taking care of elderly people requires expertise and specialized professionals. Therefore, A Mão Branca has highly qualified employees to assure safety and peacefulness not only for the elderly, but also for their relatives.
A Mão Branca assures full-time care and:
 Full-Time Nursing Assistance
The nursing assistance is performed by certified nursing assistants and nurses that fulfill the basic needs related to hygiene, nutrition, mobility, leisure and companionship, among others, according to the dependence level of each elder.
The nursing professionals are also in charge of the medications administration, dressings application, disease prevention and general care.
The full-time nursing assistance is a huge differential regarding the home care, since qualified professionals will work in shifts to assure the constant presence of professionals to meet the needs that the elderly may have at any time of the day or night.
Daily Medical Assistance and Staff with On-Duty Physicians
Every day geriatricians, who are physicians specialized in taking care, preventing and treating diseases related to aging, attend patients in A Mão Branca. Patients can be seen by their usual specialists if required by the family, or referred to exams and medical procedures, when necessary.
As a home, the Institution does not work as a hospital; instead, it assists elderly with care and infrastructure necessary to assure the best wellness and health conditions for their residents.
During the night and on weekends there is a staff of on-duty professionals available to manage emergencies, answer questions by phone or help if necessary.
Daily Social Services’ Assistance
The social service is accounted for admitting and selecting the paying and not-paying elderly and, together with the occupational therapy staff, organizing the routine of the residents in the institution, focusing on their interests and needs and seeking partnerships to make projects and actions feasible.
Nutrition and Dietetic Services
The nutrition service assures the provision of only proper meals to the needs of each elderly, strictly following the medical orientations, providing food at the same time healthy and delicious, offering options that please the elderly and fulfill their daily specific necessities.
There are five daily meals made by the nutrition service, with a strict hygiene and storage control.
Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy in A Mão Branca aims at maintaining, reestablishing and improving the functional capacity in order to keep the elderly active and independent for the longest time. The general purpose of the Occupational Therapist work is to allow the elderly to be active in their daily life tasks (such as personal care, mobility, communication) and leisure activities.
Physiotherapy
A Mão Branca offers optional outsourced physiotherapy services with specialized professionals that develop specific activities to improve the quality of life of the elderly. Postural exercises, aerobic conditioning and stretching aim at improving the functional independence and the strength gain to allow them to have a better quality of life.
Therapy with Dogs
Bimonthly the staff of the NGO INATAA (Instituto Nacional de Ações e Terapias Assistidas por Animais [National Institute of Actions and Therapies Attended by Animals]) visits A Mão Branca with their therapy dogs and health professionals. According to the NGO, the interaction between an elder and an animal improves their self-confidence, concentration, affectivity, and helps increasing their self-esteem, beside reducing the blood pressure, cholesterol, stress, depression and anxiety. In A Mão Branca the NGO conducts recreational and entertaining activities through the contact with animals.
Laundry Service
To guarantee the hygiene and comfort of the elderly and their relatives, A Mão Branca has a laundry service that takes care of the hygiene items of the rooms (sheets, towels etc) and clothes, assuring an efficient and quick service to fulfill the institution's large demand.
